Resident-led project to improve access for more people in and around Kings Heath High Street in partnership with Kings Heath Business Improvement District.

About Access for All Kings Heath

Between January and May 2024 we worked in partnership with Kings Heath BID to deliver the first part of the Access for All Kings Heath project funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Find out about our achievements by visiting Access For All Kings Heath Part I They included the production of training resources (publication and video) and guidance on how to improve accessibility, a fact-finding visit of almost 300 business in the BID area to review access, resulting in accessibility icons being added to the BID Business Directory for every business to help shoppers with access needs to plan their visits to the High Street.   www.enjoykingsheath.com/accessibility/

We were awarded a second round of UKSPF funding and between September 2024 and March 2025 our team with lived experience of disability continued to offer support to businesses to help them become more accessible.

This time, alongside a package of practical advice, we were offering support to businesses and purchased physical items to help them improve access. This included supporting 30 independent businesses with a new portable ramp – sized for gradient and tested with wheelchair users, window stickers, doorbells for people to ask for assistance, two hearing loops, two toilet upgrades for mobility challenged customers and 2 boxes of sensory toys to create inclusive cafe ‘chill out’ spaces for families needing space for a member to regulate emotions during a shopping trip.

Which businesses did we help?
