Understanding Brandwood

Starting our social enterprise from a place of understanding what matters to people.

This project was a collaboration with Selly Oak NNS to conduct a robust piece of community engagement and consultation in the Brandwood area in order to enhance our collective understanding about citizen needs and aspirations and design services (activities) around these.

We approached engagement in a variety of ways, distributing a paper household survey, online survey, holding two focus groups and a family-friendly drop in-consultation event, and speaking with individuals and organisations working in the area.

We achieved a good distribution of respondents across the Brandwood area (approx locations based on street postcodes.) I total 292 people responded to the survey.

Thank you to our project funders

What types of things did we learn?

We looked in depth at what the survey could tell us about loneliness for people aged 50+ to support the work of Selly Oak NNS, and our own work on reducing social isolation. Here are a few examples of insights we could understand from analysing the data.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the survey. The findings are shaping our plans moving forward and helping us win grants so we can deliver activities and fulful our social mission of reducing isolation within the area.
