Bats are nocturnal (active at night). When dusk comes they leave their roosts and fly to the Reservoir to hunt for insects over the water and take drinks – all whilst still in flight!

If you come down to the Reservoir on an organised evening bat walk, you may be able to hear a bat’s high frequency ‘shouting’ using a bat detector (human ears can’t hear them). Bats are able to locate their prey and surroundings by the echoes that bounce back.

Brian, from the Friends of Lifford Reservoir, recorded a Daubenton's bat on a bat walk in April 2023 .

How many more Nature Doors can you discover in the woodland and around the Reservoir?
