Our Scene CIC prides itself on being one of the key drivers for change in Brandwood neighbourhoods. We listen to what our communities say they need to improve the area and to increase quality of life, and work hard to try and make it happen!
By March 2026, thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we are working to make more visible improvements to its streets, safer routes to school and between community assets, and stronger connections between residents, businesses, and groups. We want young people to have new opportunities to learn and contribute, families to will feel safer, and perceptions of Brandwood – both within and outside – to be more positive. We will continue the work we have started within Brandwood’s Cultural Action Area to create lasting pride and confidence in our suburb of the Kings Heath area and our hope is to ensure residents feel part of something bigger: a community that cares for itself and its future.
We will start a long‑term ‘Brandwood Blooms’ project, working towards official ‘In Bloom’ recognition with the RHS. The initiative will create opportunities for residents to learn woodworking and gardening skills, encourage greater social action, and generate a vibrant buzz across Brandwood — for both people and pollinators.
We have taken on a ‘meanwhile’ lease of an unused piece of private land in Partons Road, added a polytunnel and transformed it into – Poly Partons. This land in 2025 was plagued by persistent fly-tipping. We are working with local residents to turn it into a space that the local community can use and can feel proud of. To start with it has become the HQ and chief growing space for flowers for the Brandwood Blooms project.
To boost awareness of what’s happening in Brandwood — who, what, when, and where! This will be the go‑to website for everything in and around the suburb, helping residents and visitors to discover community places, green spaces, local groups to join, activities and events to enjoy, and opportunities to volunteer and build skills.
To boost connectivity we will be clearing and maintaining two key alleyways or ‘gullies’ as the locals say, to improve lighting efficiency, install
convex mirrors to increase visibility and funding a “Gully Gardener” to make maintaining safe and clean walking routes between estates and the garden.
We will build momentum of the Zebra Zone, continuing the campaign to keep children safe between school and home. We are working with the council using funding from UKSPF to create the employment of a school crossing patrol person on the zebra crossing by Allens Croft Road Nursery and Primary schools for a year.
Through the Brandwood Buzz initiative we have commissioned freelance PR & marketing support from Mazzy to grow #BrandwoodBuzz social media, and use of community noticeboards so that residents, community groups and businesses know about what is happening locally, strengthening cohesion and increasing social participation.
We will be working with local partners to introduce colourful and creative wayfinding ‘short cuts’ signage and access information, and encourage residents and visitors to explore and discover the area by foot or bicycle.
Stay Local. Discover More!
We are repurposing a van into a mobile woodworking van – to deliver the
Brandwood Blooms campaign at locations around the area. We want to use this new resource to engage young people in places where they hang
out, bringing positive, creative activity into our neighbourhoods.
We will also take time to develop multi-year funding bids to create more youth provision in the area and create a Business Plan for Dawberry Corner Community Garden.
